Top places for wedding photographs at Oxwich Bay Hotel

My top 5 places to go for wedding photographs at Oxwich Bay Hotel by Michelle Huggleston

The lovely Michelle Huggleston, who is a local wedding photographer, tells us her top 5 places to go for wedding photos in and around Oxwich Bay...

I’ve shot weddings in all seasons at Oxwich Bay Hotel. Capturing weddings on cold crisp winter days to beautiful summer weddings. The time of year and even weather doesn’t make a difference with such an incredible location. What I love most about a wedding at Oxwich Bay Hotel (other than the brilliant staff!) is the opportunity for great wedding photographs. Yes, you have to put the time in to get the photographs and work with an awesome photographer, but with the view of a beach that seems to go on forever, this makes the perfect backdrop for wedding photographs

Here are my top 5 places to go for wedding photographs at Oxwich Bay Hotel.

1. Oxwich Bay Grounds

My first top place to go for wedding photographs at Oxwich Bay Hotel is, of course, the grounds itself. I know the beach isn’t too far, but for me I like to shoot a variety of different photographs. Making use of the gardens outside the marquee is a brilliant and relaxed way to do this. It’s such a great place to have family photographs and shots with your wedding party! And don’t forget the underneath of the marquee is great in wet weather.

2. The Forest

The forest isn’t too far and offers such a great alternative to getting different photographs. The light peeking in-between the trees. It’s a bit more secluded meaning there’s less of an audience and of course it’s somewhere different to have photographs.

3. The Road

I’m a sucker for the road running alongside the marquee. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s such a great place for photographs. I shoot a mixture of couples shots and wedding party shots. It has a beautiful view of the beach, it offers a different backdrop. And my favourite part is capturing a couple naturally walking and moving together. This is before we’ve even got onto the beach!

4. Sand Dunes

The is a bit of an extra walk, but boy is it worth it. At sunset the colours are gorgeous, It’s quiet, so you won’t have people watching you and the variety of shots I capture is brilliant. You can have the sea in the background and also have the everlasting dunes in the background. The sand dunes provide another fantastic photo opportunity that Oxwich Bay Hotel can provide.

5. The Beach Itself

I thought I’d leave the best until last! Of course the beach is the most perfect place for wedding photographs. It offers such a beautiful backdrop. I love to capture natural walking shots with three cliffs in the distance. The sea and rocks offer another aspect to the beach as well as the general public. Yes if it’s busy, you might get some people in the background, but they’re all just wishing you well and excited that you’ve just got married at Oxwich Bay.

My top tips when thinking about locations for your wedding photographs. Is to communicate with your wedding photographer, ask for their ideas and suggest yours. It’s such a great way to know you’re on the same page. Lastly, schedule in the time for these photographs, but enjoy doing them.

I hope this blog post has given you a bit of insight into some of my top places to go for wedding photographs at Oxwich Bay Hotel.
